The global alkaline batteries market was valued at US$ xx million in the year 2018 and is expected to reach US$ xx million by the year 2023, growing at a CAGR of approximately 1.2%. Batteries are one of the essential and most used tools nowadays. The usage of batteries is observed in areas where regular power supply is not available and in applications that require lower voltage. A unit of a battery is called cell and several cells complete a battery. Batteries are mainly of two types - lead-acid battery and alkaline battery.

Alkaline batteries consist of manganese dioxide as electrode and zinc. In comparison to zinc carbon batteries, these provide a fixed voltage offering, better leakage resistance, and higher energy density due to the presence of purer and denser manganese dioxide anode. Alkaline batteries can perform equally well at high and low temperatures. Alkaline batteries do not contain mercury and hence, they are environment-friendly. Therefore, these batteries are free to active collection and recycling. Alkaline batteries are available in various sizes like AA, AAA, C, D, and others. For the purpose of high and low drain operations, different size variants are used. When these batteries are used for low drain operations, their replacement rate is lower than other batteries.


The market is experiencing growth due to the rising disposable income of the consumers in developed economies. The market is experiencing a disruption as market participants are shifting towards lithium-ion batteries. However, the high cost of alkaline batteries is also impeded the growth of the market.
